In Build a Solid Base in Jiu Jitsu | You-Jitsu Podcast Episode 19, I share the importance of building a strong base as a White Belt. We do this when in someone’s closed guard with good posture, hands on our opponent’s hip bones, and by sitting on our active feet (balls of foot). We can also build triangle-like solid, strong shapes with our frames when someone is mounted on us or has us in side control.

Triangles are strong because of their inherent structural characteristics. The corner angles of a triangle cannot change without an accompanying change in the length of the edge. Therefore, an edge must collapse to change a triangle’s shape.”

Key takeaway: Don’t just fall over because you are new
