The latest episode of the ‘People, Process, Progress’ podcast was inspired by a listener’s response to the ‘‘People, Process, Progress’ Podcast Listener Survey“. In the response the listener from Richmond, Virginia asked for more information about home gyms and incorporating kids into workouts. Hence, ‘PPP67: Home Gyms and Healthy Kids” was born!
The first part of this episode is me sharing some data I put together by going back through my daily fitness focused Facebook posts. It was a great experience to walk down memory lane and remember where I started. On a cold, cement slab in my shed gym with a pipe mounted between rafters, some exercise straps and my will to improve. As you can see in the image on the left, it takes time and repetition. But like me, anyone can do it.
Workout Summary 2017 through 2021
*Spoiler Alert* – My most frequent workout type is the “MetCon” or metabolic conditioning. As I state int this episode, MetCons are a combination of cardio, strength, function and other movements all in one workout. For me, these help build overall fitness and function far better than just weights or other singularly focused exercises. In addition to MetCon style workouts, I regularly practice Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ), Yoga and stretching for muscle recovery and longevity, resistance bands, body weight and whatever feels right that day. You don’t need a lot of equipment to start exercising. You just need to start.
So what about the “Healthy Kids” part of the episode? Well, my 14 year old son Logan joins me for the last 20 minutes or so and shares how he started getting up and working out to keep up with others on the football field, how regular exercise has built his confidence and more. If you have a child that needs some motivation, give this episode a listen!
Thank you all for reading this and listening to the episode.
Stay safe, wash your hands and Godspeed,
Kevin
