Lessons from the January 2021 Capitol Chaos

January 2021 Capitol Chaos

In this bonus episode, Lessons from the January 2021 Capitol Chaos, I share my observations as a former Planning Section Chief on the January 2021 U.S. Capitol Chaos. I share how Incident Management Teams (IMTs) and Public Safety agencies can take lessons from the tragic day and apply them to planning processes in the future.

On January 6, 2021, the U.S. Capitol stormed and overrun Six Americans died. My thought from the outside was, “What were their contingency plans?”

These are challenging times we are facing. In the past summer, we lost 19 fellow Americans, and just this week, we lost 6 more. The process of healing our nation will not be simple, quick, or without obstacles. Moreover, organizing special events in the near future will be challenging, and there is a high probability of remaining at elevated threat levels.

your contingency plan is as important as your business plan.” ― Pooja Agnihotri

We must prevent another event like the January 2021 Capitol Chaos. Agencies having jurisdiction MUST insist on combined planning and resource coordination to help save lives.
