Project charters are essential for achieving success in any project. In this older ‘Between the Slides’ episode #22, Key Elements of Project Charters, I provide valuable information about the crucial elements that should be included in every project charter. In this episode, I also explain how to connect these charter elements to processes. These processes include the important discussions and agreements required to develop the information into the charter.
“First, have a definite, clear, practical ideal; a goal, an objective. Second, have the necessary means to achieve your ends: wisdom, money, materials, and methods. Third, adjust all your means to that end. “ – Aristotle
Summary
Remembering to create a charter early is key for Project Managers or anyone tasked with leading projects in their organization. The charter should not be super detailed like a requirements document. These details will appear later when working with the team’s technical experts. Instead, the charter should provide enough high-level information to start the project. Charters also provide good baseline information about the effort.
